Welcome to the Pittsworth State High School community. Pittsworth State High School is a co-educational secondary school located in the town of Pittsworth on the Darling Downs, west of Toowoomba. Pittsworth enjoys a well deserved reputation of academic excellence, a tradition which has spanned many years. Young people graduate from Pittsworth State High School ready to achieve great futures. Our vision is Shaping Futures, the futures of young people are the future of our society.
The school has a strong direction that is underpinned by four core values. We believe that everyone should be Prepared to learn, and expect each person to strive for their personal best. We believe that everyone should be Positive in attitude and interaction with others. We believe everyone should be Productive in work and effort, and we believe that we should be Proud of our school and community. We are proud to be a quality public education institution. We encourage our students to be the best they can, but do to so with integrity.
It is an exciting time for our school, with significant enrolment growth, the building of new facilities, and strong academic results. The school offers a wide range of Vocational Education and Training courses and prides itself on positive relationships and partnerships we forge students, staff, parents, the wider community and with local businesses. This contributes to the high rate of participation in School Based Traineeships and School Based Apprenticeships for senior students. A wide variety of sports and cultural activities are also on offer for students. Indeed we cater for the full range of students at our school.
The school runs an extremely successful agricultural program and owns a herd of 40 cattle. Pittsworth State High School is a leader in innovative technology with a 1:1 laptop program operating Years 8 and 9 over the past three years. In 2012, National Secondary School Computer Fund devices are to be issued to students in Years 11 and 12.
The school was recently awarded a regional Showcase Award for Excellence – for Community and Industry partnerships. Pittsworth State High School is also a Gateway School in Agri-business and a Queensland Minerals and Energy Academy School.
One of the cornerstones of Pittsworth State High School is the safe, disciplined and inclusive educational environment where young people can focus on achieving excellence in a range of academic, vocational, sporting and cultural pursuits. We will continue to focus on Middle Schooling model in Years 8 and 9, which is based on sound teaching practice in preparation for our first Year 7 cohort in three years from now. We operate a three year Senior Phase of Learning structure that enables students in Year 10 to pursue courses of study that contribute towards the Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE).
Thank you for taking an interest in our great school. High school marks the time when young people start to make real and important decisions about their future. Pittsworth State High School provides many, innovative and exciting opportunities for participation over 5 years of secondary education.
